David Butler

David was previously an Associate Director at Downing LLP where he focused on early-stage growth capital investing across a range of sectors.

Prior to Downing, David was a Manager in the Corporate Finance team at PwC in London having spent three years within the PwC Assurance practice, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

At Chiltern, David leads transactions across multiple sectors, with particular experience in industrial products and services.

Since joining Chiltern, David has been involved in the acquisition and subsequent sale of Doby Verrolec, add-ons of Plasmech and Amerplast to Hanmere to form the Trueman Group, add-on of TTG to Gradwell, and the acquisitions of Inciner8, Emtez and Strata Products.

Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his young family, supporting his old rugby club, and is a keen golfer.

Ryan Robson

Ryan is a successful entrepreneur who founded and ran a business that is now a global market leader.

He is Chairman of The International Schools Partnership, a fast growing education group operating in 22 countries supported by some of the world’s largest investors and pension funds.

Ryan was Chairman of Phenna Group, a successful ’buy and build’ in Testing, Inspection, Certification and Compliance which now generates over £450m in revenue with 5400 employees.

Based on his experience as Chairman of Schools Standards and Performance for disadvantaged state schools, he has written three respected national policy papers on educational disadvantage and children in care. He is a patient fan of Newcastle United Football Club and enjoys diving and skiing.

Joe Bennett

Joe is responsible for leading transactions and working with portfolio companies in the business services and industrials sectors. He has managed Chiltern’s investments into Assembuild, Surepharm, Intec and Batt Cables, and oversaw the successful exit of I Heart Studios.

Joe was previously a Director at a private family office, where he led European lower-mid market deals across a variety of sectors. He started his career at KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in TMT Audit, before spending three years in the mid-market Transaction Services department.

Outside of work, Joe is kept busy by his young family and two rescue dogs. When time permits, he also enjoys getting out on the golf course and playing hockey for his local club.

Lotte Carter

Lotte focuses on identifying relevant investment opportunities and establishing relationships with founders, management teams, and advisors. Prior to her role at Chiltern, Lotte worked in market insights supporting her Private Equity clients with researching B2B markets in the UK and internationally.

Away from the office, Lotte can be found making brownies or running around Battersea park.

Michael Coupland

Mike is focussed on supporting management teams deliver their ambitions for growth and brings a wealth of portfolio experience. He serves directly on the board of several of investee companies.

Formerly Mike worked as an Investment Director concentrating on lower-mid market investing. He has a range of sector experience but has spent most of his time working with B2B industrial, manufacturing and distribution businesses. Mike qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG where he worked in Corporate Finance and Tax.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys cooking and playing golf when he isn’t busy looking after his young family.

Alistair Gray

Ali focuses on originating new investment opportunities for Chiltern as well as supporting portfolio companies with delivering their inorganic growth strategies. Since joining Chiltern he has work closely with Steer Automotive, Intec, Batt Cables, Assembuild and Emtez.

Ali has nearly 10 years of private investment experience but started his career at KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Account.

Away from the office, Ali enjoys spending time with his young family, playing golf when he can and trying to grow vegetables.

Samantha Hemsworth

With 20 years of experience in financial services, Samantha is an Executive Assistant who specialises in managing busy schedules, juggling multiple tasks, and providing reliable support.

Outside of work, she enjoys Pilates, cooking, and countryside walks.

Calum McDonald

Calum focuses on new investments, primarily in the Industrials and Technology sectors, as well as supporting a number of our portfolio companies with M&A, value creation and refinancings.

Calum was previously a Manager at Grant Thornton in the Corporate Finance team, focusing on lower mid-market deals across several sectors, including technology, business services and industrials.

Calum qualified as a Chartered Accountant within Grant Thornton’s Corporate Finance practice.

Away from the office, Calum enjoys hacking his way around a local golf course. He is also an avid snowboarder, squash player and amateur marathon runner.

Adam focuses on new investments in the Industrials and Business Services sectors, as well as supporting a number of portfolio companies with M&A, value creation and refinancings.

Prior to joining Chiltern Capital in 2024, Adam worked in the Transaction Services team in EY Ireland, focusing on transactions in the mid-market space, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Away from the office, Adam is a keen, yet struggling golfer, is an enthusiastic supporter of Leinster Rugby, and enjoys exploring the countryside.

Tom Phipps

Tom co-founded Chiltern Capital with Alex Sheffield and is a member of the Investment Committee. He focuses much of his time on developing the firm’s origination activities and completing new investments in the business services and technology sectors. Recent investments include VIMA and SiXworks.

Prior to Chiltern Capital, Tom was a director at Livingstone Partners.

Tom is an avid follower of Gloucester Rugby Club.

Jon Rawlings

Jon joined was previously an Investment Director at a mid-market private equity fund where he focused on supporting portfolio companies in delivering their growth strategies.

Since joining Chiltern, Jon has been involved in supporting Rapid Repair Network in building out its value creation plan as well as providing portfolio support to a number of Chiltern’s investments.

Outside of work, Jon enjoys spending time with his family as well as keeping fit, cycling and watching a wide variety of sports.

Andrew Reid

Andrew focuses on new investments, primarily in the Industrials and Business Services sectors, as well as supporting a number of our portfolio companies with value creation, M&A, and refinancings.

Previously he was a Senior Manager at HMT in the Transaction Services team, where he managed financial due diligence assignments for private equity firms in the lower mid-market. Andrew started his career at EY, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Away from the office, Andrew enjoys all things sporting and is a keen golfer and long-suffering Scottish rugby fan. Outside of sport, Andrew likes getting out into countryside.

Harry Reid

Harry joined Chiltern after several years advising local and global mid-market private equity firms. Harry is qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Harry is involved in the assessment of new investment opportunities and supporting investee companies as a board member. He was involved in the investment into Rapid Repair Network and Strata Products and sits on the board of Inciner8.

Away from the office, Harry has a keen interest in rugby league and union, cricket and golf. He also enjoys travelling and talking all things agriculture, as he remains closely linked to family farming operations in rural Australia.

Ben Robinson

Ben leads new investments as well as playing an active role in supporting portfolio companies with a particular focus on technology and automotive services. Ben has worked closely with a number of our successful investee companies including SiXworks, Steer Automotive, VIMA and Cybit.

Prior to joining Chiltern, Ben worked in Transaction Services at PwC, focusing on mid-market deals, having previously qualified as a Chartered Accountant within PwC’s Assurance practice.

Away from the office, Ben enjoys all things active including running, cycling and golf. Having hung up his rugby boots he remains a keen fan of the Exeter Chiefs.

Prior to joining Chiltern, Freya worked at KPMG advising local and global mid-market private equity firms. Freya is qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Freya is involved in the assessment of new investment opportunities as well as supporting our portfolio companies.

Outside of work, Freya previously dedicated most of her time to playing lacrosse where she was a member of the England Senior Women's squad for several years. Following an ACL injury she has stopped playing and is now enjoying taking up new sports such as padel and golf.

Alex Sheffield

Alex co-founded Chiltern Capital. He enjoys working with teams to drive growth and innovation. He has led and sat on the boards of a number of our investments, including Steer Automotive. Alex is a member of the investment committee.

He has previously been on the other side of the table as COO and CFO of a PE-backed business, and also as CFO of a listed buy and build group, prior to leading its successful sale to a strategic acquirer. Alex qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC.

He has a passion for food (cooking and eating), and a love of the outdoors.

Greg joined the business in 2024 in the portfolio team to support management teams deliver their growth strategies.

Previously, Greg was Director of Finance and Operations at a fast-growing, IT and telecoms managed services provider going through a buy and build strategy. Prior to that, he was Head of Corporate Development at White Oak UK, a specialist lender in the UK. Greg initially spent 10 years at Grant Thornton, the latter 7 in the Transaction Services team and Strategy Group.

Outside of work, Greg enjoys most things sport related and you can often find him on the golf course.

Jane Traylen

Jane has responsibility for the finance, compliance and operational activities of the firm.

Prior to Chiltern, Jane spent over a decade working in financial services. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant she worked for a private Swiss bank before spending the last seven years working at an alternative asset fund.

Outside the office Jane enjoys cooking and spending time in the outdoors.
