The Business

Emtez is a UK headquartered designer, manufacturer and distributor of industrial safety products and solutions, focussed on environmental protection, spill prevention and EV battery storage. Since being established over three decades ago by founder, Bruce Wishart, Emtez has grown into a leading pan-European operator serving a range of blue-chip customers from sites across the UK, France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Belgium.

The Deal

The management buy-out has been led by David Byrne (CEO) and Jon Hazlewood (CFO), with founder, Bruce Wishart, continuing as a non-executive director and investor. The team will be further bolstered by the introduction of Warwick Ley as Chair. Chiltern will support the team in delivering its exciting plans to broaden Emtez’s product and service offering and make further funding available for targeted M&A.

The Plan

Emtez presents an opportunity to build upon an asset of scale in an attractive market with value that can be unlocked through:

- strategic, commercial and operational harmonisation;

- the realisation of Group-wide production efficiencies;

- product development in new and existing markets; and

- targeted investment to increase capacity and capabilities.

Michael Coupland

Mike is focussed on supporting management teams deliver their ambitions for growth and brings a wealth of portfolio experience. He serves directly on the board of several of investee companies.

Formerly Mike worked as an Investment Director concentrating on lower-mid market investing. He has a range of sector experience but has spent most of his time working with B2B industrial, manufacturing and distribution businesses. Mike qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG where he worked in Corporate Finance and Tax.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys cooking and playing golf when he isn’t busy looking after his young family.

Andrew Reid

Andrew focuses on new investments, primarily in the Industrials and Business Services sectors, as well as supporting a number of our portfolio companies with value creation, M&A, and refinancings.

Previously he was a Senior Manager at HMT in the Transaction Services team, where he managed financial due diligence assignments for private equity firms in the lower mid-market. Andrew started his career at EY, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Away from the office, Andrew enjoys all things sporting and is a keen golfer and long-suffering Scottish rugby fan. Outside of sport, Andrew likes getting out into countryside.
