Carve-out

Doby Verrolec

The Business

Based in Stanley, County Durham, Doby Verrolec is one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of energy efficient HVAC ductwork jointing systems and ductwork components in the UK and Europe. Doby also manufactures suspension systems and roll-formed sections/profiles for a range of applications.

The Deal

Doby was previously a division of Heitkamp & Thumann, a family-owned industrial manufacturing group headquartered in Dusseldorf.

Chiltern has taken a majority stake in the company and will play an active role in supporting Malcolm Moss (Managing Director) and Terry Dingley (Works & Technical Director) to accelerate growth. The deal represents Chiltern’s fourth corporate carve-out since 2015. As part of the transaction, experienced sector and private equity chairman, Tony Clarkson, has joined as Chairman.

“I am very pleased to be working with David and Tony, as we build on our reputation for manufacturing excellence, product quality and service with customers across the UK and globally.”

The Plan

After several years as a non-core asset of a German corporate group with other strategic priorities and limited senior management focus, Doby now has an opportunity to capitalise on its strong position in the UK market to launch new complementary products and embark on a geographical expansion campaign.

Exit During Chiltern’s investment, Chiltern supported and encouraged the management team to position the business for customer-centric, sustainable growth. In February 2022, Chiltern completed the sale of the business to a PE-backed, European trade acquirer.
